African American History Museum

On October 27 I went to an african american museum. It wasn't too good though. I didn't learn too much. After that I went to the science center and I saw the air and space exhibit. I saw the apollo 11 ship. I also saw a model of a astronaut's suit. They said that it weighed 180 lbs. on Earth.

Disney Concert Hall

Yesterday, Saturday, December 26 I took a free tour of the building and some of the auditoriums of Disney Concert Hall. It was built by Frank Gehry. I got to see many parts of the building and I also got to see the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion again. I also got to see the founder's room of the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion. They had three giant chandliers. The place where the chandliers were bought only had two, so the buyer had to make another one. Also they had made a golden dome on the ceiling and it echoed. The builders didn't know that it would echo also.

The Barber of Seville

Yesterday I got to see an opera called The Barber of Seville. Most of my class got to see it. Usually the tickets would have costed $175. But we all got it for free because my friend's mom was looking for discount tickets for her son. So the head asked what school, his grade, and his teacher. And luckly the head knew my teacher. So the head donated 43 tickets. But the opera was cool. At the end one of the guys was singing really loud at the right pitch for about 2 minutes. The opera was 3 hours long. Alot of my friends were there. It ended at about 11 o'clock!

The Solar System

There are many interesting objects in the universe. But to some people, our Solar System is the most amazing. Let’s visit our heavenly bodies in the Solar System. We’ll journey out far to the Sun first.

The Sun

The Sun is a medium-sized star 115 million km from Earth, or I should say about 50 million miles from Earth.

Isn’t it amazing that the Sun’s photosphere (surface) is 6,000 degrees Celsius and that it’s core is 15,000,000 degrees Celsius. Did you know that the Sun takes up 99.8% of the Solar System? That’s a lot! The sun is mostly made of gases called hydrogen and helium. The gravitational field of the sun causes nuclear fusion where two hydrogen atoms fuse into a helium atom, thus making massive amounts of energy. Ok now let’s visit Mercury.

Mercury

Mercury is the closest planet from the Sun even though the distance between is 36 million miles. Mercury has no moons. It’s day is 59 Earth days but it’s year is only 88 Earth days. I can’t believe that a full 2 days (on Mercury) is longer than it’s year! Also one side is really hot and the other side is super cold. Now I think it would be cool to visit Venus.

Venus

Venus is the second planet from the Sun and is named after the Roman Goddess of Beauty. Did you know that Venus is the brightest object in the night sky? But isn’t Venus weird? A year on Venus would be 225 Earth days but a day on Venus is even longer. And Venus is hotter than Mercury even though Mercury is closer to the sun. Carbon and sulfuric acid traps heat. Temperature on Venus can come up to 400 degrees Celsius. I want to see our planet now.

Earth

Earth is the most suitable planet for life in our Solar System. It is never too hot or too cold. It is filled with 75% of water and 25% of land. Earth is so suitable for life that millions of species survived. It has enough gravity to keep us down but not too much to crush us. Earth has one moon. I wonder what is so cool about the moon?

The Earth’s Moon

The moon orbits Earth and also like Earth has mountains. But too bad there is no oxygen on the moon. The moon is also called Luna. Did you know that just recently, we had discovered ice on the moon. We had crashed a rocket into Luna and observed that there was frozen ice under the surface. Luna also causes tides. A tide is when the moon tugs on Earth’s water. In the night (or whenever the moon is up) there are high tides. In the day there is usually low tides. Now I want to observe Mars.

Mars

Mars is also known as the red planet. If Earth wasn’t in our Solar System, Mars would be the best place for life even though there are many solar winds.

Some people also believe that there are extra-terrestrials on Mars, known as Martians. Isn’t that crazy? Did you know that Mars’ temperature can rise up to only 27 degrees Fahrenheit, but can decrease down to -133 degrees Fahrenheit. Did you know that Mars might have had water flowing in canals? People believe this because rovers found ice under the surface.

Now, I want to see Jupiter, or should we do the asteroid belt first.

The Asteroid Belt

The asteroid belt is located between Mars and Jupiter. The reason we call it The Asteroid Belt is because there are millions of huge asteroids orbiting the sun in a circle shaped

belt. It’s kind of like rings orbiting Saturn but they’re much farther apart. The biggest asteroid we know is called Ceres. Ceres is 933 km long. So they call it a dwarf planet because of the asteroids large size. Did you know that asteroids sometimes visit Earth. But they rarely come along. Maybe they don’t like us. I think we should check out Jupiter.

Jupiter

Out of all the planets I think Jupiter is the most weirdest. Jupiter looks like a star in the night sky. It’s the 5th planet from the sun. Did you know that Jupiter is 480 million miles from the Sun? Jupiter is the largest planet in our Solar System. Isn’t it amazing that you can fit 1,300 Earths in Jupiter. I can’t believe Jupiter takes 12 Earth years to orbit the sun. Did you know that “The Great Red Spot” is actually a raging storm going on for more than 3 centuries. You can fit an entire Earth in “The Great Red Spot”. Jupiter has many moons and has been observed by Pioneer, Voyager, and Galileo missions. I think we should see Saturn now.

Saturn

Saturn also looks like a faint star in the night sky. Did you know that Saturn was named after The Roman God of Farming. I thought that it was named after the Roman Goddess of Beauty. Saturn is the 6th planet from the Sun. Isn’t it amazing that Saturn is 890 million miles from the Sun. I can’t believe that it takes more than 30 Earth years to orbit the Sun. Saturn is a gas giant like Jupiter, Uranus, and Neptune. So this means you can’t stand on Saturn. Saturn has way more mass than Earth. Did you know you can fit 750 Earths into Saturn. Also a day on Saturn would be 10 hours long. Isn’t that time consuming! Also your weight would be just a little more on Saturn than on Earth. I can’t believe Saturn’s rings are made out of dust and rocks. Titan, Saturn’s moon is the second largest moon in our Solar System. Did you know that since Saturn isn’t that dense, it can float on water if you can find an ocean large enough. Let’s head on to Uranus.

Uranus

Uranus is the 7th planet from the Sun. Did you know that Uranus is a tilted planet. People think that Uranus got hit by a huge asteroid. But Uranus doesn’t rotate sideways since it’s tilted. It’s axis is horizontal. Uranus has a year which is long as 84 Earth years. Since Uranus is tilted, one side doesn’t get light for 42 Earth years. It’s core is surrounded by hydrogen, helium, and methane, which makes a mushy sea.

Neptune

Neptune takes 250 Earth years to orbit the Sun. Neptune is slightly smaller than Uranus. Neptune is 4 times the diameter of Earth. Neptune is really cold. Did you know that Neptune was predicted before seen. People saw Uranus moving weirdly and thought gravity from another planet was causing Uranus to be pulled.

Pluto

Pluto was the 9th planet from the Sun until it was deducted as a dwarf planet in 2006. Pluto is very, very, very cold! Did you know Pluto has an elliptical orbit. So sometimes it comes closer to the sun than Neptune. Pluto’s size is a quarter of Earth’s. Some scientists call Pluto a twin planet because it has a moon about the same size.

Space is a very interesting place where you can find many mind blowing objects. One time I saw a meteor off in the sky while I was near a temple. It was going down so fast. I could see a tail of flames. I think space is a really cool topic to talk about.

My First Song

I wrote a new song for guitar class and it's called, "Why I Hate Open Court Reading".

Why I Hate Open Court Reading

I hate open court more than anyone alive!

I would rather get stuck in a giant bee-hive.

I would rather run through the sun than

reading Open Court without having fun.

OCR is useless, a waste of time.

Would you like to trade this “marvelous book”

for a dime?

I would rather eat some grass than attending

My OCR class!

Too much work without any perk.

There are persuasive and expository essays.

To write them takes too many days.

To write an essay you need information, all right?

To compile that info takes all my might!

There are six units total and we’re still on the second.

It’ll take another year to complete I reckon.

I’m happy I’m getting a break from the OCR

As Christmas Break,

Oops! I mean “ Winter Holidays” is here.

I think OCR sounds wrong.

Boyle heights soccer game

I played goalie for my all star soccer match. Usually in all star games if you lose twice your team is out. But since of the budget cut if you lose once you're out. I didn't get much action in the first half. But our team scored a goal. And I saved two goals in the second half. But unfortunately one of my teammates unfairly got a yellow card for no reason. Even my coach though that was unfair. But we still won.

The Best Soccer Match Ever!

A few weeks ago I had a playoffs game for soccer. It was zero to zero and someone had to win. So we had five penalty kicks. I was the goalie for my team. The first and second one I had blocked the ball from the goal. But the third and fourth one got past me. And the fifth one I saved. Our team although also got 2 goals. So we had even more penalty kicks. I got to kick this one. When I shot the ball it curved to the right and it made! We won! My friends started jumping on me!

Then I went on a air trolley ride.We went 1,000 feet high. It was the largest trolley ride in the world. Then we ate dinner at a mountain station. While we ate dinner we saw a racoon out the door. Then I went back down the hill and we went to the hotel. The next day I went horse riding. I got a horse named Pedro. After an hour I stopped horse riding And I went to the car. The next day I left back to Los Angeles. I wish I could come back to Palm Springs.

The Hoover dam is amazing

I loved our visit to the Hoover Dam. It’s an amazing place with some breath taking views. I also shot a highway arch under construction, it looks great. You can see the back and the front of the Dam. It was an amazing experience to be at top of the Hoover Dam. Did you know that the Hoover Dam's cement could make a 3 inch sidewalk around the earth. If you get a chance do visit it.

Bird Feeding Is Fun

While at the Long Beach Aquarium I had a lot of fun feeding the birds. One of them wouldn’t just go away until he finished all the honey.

The Day I Pitched

Yesterday there was another baseball game. There were five innings in this game. We had only one good pitcher and one out of our 2 substitute pitchers wasn't here. The reason we couldn't put our pitcher in for all innings is because you can only pitch for 3 innings. So this time my coach asked me to pitch for the first inning. I walked 4 people and I struck out 2 people. The first baseman also made an out. In 2nd, 3rd, and 4th inning I played first base and made 3 outs. In the last inning I hit a ball and ran to first. Then when the next batter was up I stole second. Then the batter hit the ball I went to third, and then home and we tied the game. They had to score a run to win the game, but we held them of. The pitcher struck out 2 people and I caught the ball at shortstop.

The Best Game Ever

Yesterday was June 4, 2009. I had a baseball match. It was the Dodgers vs. Athletics. We were the Dodgers. In the first inning I hit a ball and while fielding I made an out at first base. Then in the second inning I made a double play. I caught a ball and tagged a runner out. In the third inning I hit another ball. Last in the fourth inning I was playing shortstop I threw the ball to our catcher and he tagged a person out. But we still lost. I also got the game ball.

Holi, The Festival of Color

I love to play Holi. Holi is the popular Indian festival. It occurs in the month of March. On the day of Holi people squirt, apply, and throw dry and wet colors at each other. It was fun to throw colored water at people passing by. But I went to many places and got completely drenched myself. I was with my cousin, Bharat.

Encounter with a Langur Monkey

When I went to India I had an interesting encounter with a Langur Monkey. I was a little bit scared because they are very, very wild. But this Langur was however, very nice to me and I also fed him some fruit. The Langur didn't even mind me taking a photograph with him.

Last Years Baseball

Last year my dad signed me up to play baseball. My team's name was" The New York Yankees".

My Basketball Match

Hey,
Yesterday was my basketball match. Our team name was the Wildcats. The other team's name was the Bruins. I scored 7 points for my team. But we lost. It was 24 to 30. The other team was playing very well. I got a foul though. I was supposed to get only two freethrow shots but I ended up getting like five because the players from the other team kept steping in the key before the ball hit the basket's rim. We had to play the match for 3 minutes extra because we had a tie.

Visit to the Taj Mahal

Last year when I visited India, we went to see the beautiful Taj Mahal. Taj Mahal is a great monument and was built 4 centuries ago by the Mughal emperor Shahjahan. He built it in the memory of his beloved wife Mumtaj Mahal.

Taj Mahal is very beautiful inside as well as outside. It is one of the seven wonders of the world. It is located at the banks of the river Yamuna in the historic city of Agra, India.

I was indeed very fortunate to visit it. I recommend everyone to visit it.
